Analisis User Experience Games dan Storytelling Terhadap Empati Menggunakan Empathy Online Tool

Abstract

This article examines the positive impact of using video games and storytelling on enhancing empathy. The Empathy Online Tool, an online media platform, is designed to understand a person's emotions before and after engaging with games and storytelling content. The study aims to analyze the user experience, particularly how empathy is affected by different types of media or tools. Using both quantitative methods with the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) instrument and qualitative methods through the assessment of user-written microblogs, the research adds new features to the empathy online tool. The assessment criteria include five indicators: Affective Reflection, Emotion Wheel, Microblog (Assessor 1 and 2), and IRI Increase. New features such as Slider Range and the Geneva Emotion Wheel were incorporated by updating the existing program code. The study concludes that men are more likely to experience increased empathy through gaming, while women are more influenced by storytelling. Results indicate that 60% of participants reported similar levels of empathy after playing the game 'Path Out' and engaging with the storytelling content 'Brothers Across Borders'.
